why i hate my lg rumor
so a few days ago i wrote that little post about a ghetto way to sync my rumor with my outlook calendar via google calendar, which does work pretty well. i’m a pretty self conscience fuck, so i always check my blog stats like daily (why i bother when i hardly write with any regularity is beyond me really, but i do) and i’ve noticed quite a few searches coming to me via terms like “problems with lg rumor” or “why lg rumor sucks” or something like that, so i figured i’d write out the exact reasons i do not like this phone.
- the keyboard is slow - and this is probably my #1 (or possibly #2, depending on the day) reason i hate this phone. i don’t type all that fast on this thing and it still cannot keep up with me. i find myself going back and editing text messages all the time. it’s pretty fucking annoying. with something like the iphone i can understand why there is some delay between typing and something showing up on the screen, but at least it doesn’t completely miss characters like the rumor does. i could deal with a delay, but missing letters and shit is just plain bad. considering the only reason i got this phone was for the qwerty keyboard it’s a pretty big let down.
- it turns itself off – this and #1 are probably my two biggest complaints. i don’t know how many goddamn times i’ve looked at my phone and realized it’s mysteriously powered down. i’ve seen it do it while just sitting on my desk, so i know that it’s not just getting jammed in my pocket and magically shutting down.
- the internet is slow – i moved from a samsung a900 (ubiquitous phone that it seemed like every other person had) and that thing loaded anything from the web faster than this POS. had i realized that the rumor does not have cdma or whatever the sprint version of 3g is called i probably would’ve reconsidered purchasing it.
- the camera fucking sucks - see my believeland post to see how fucking terrible the camera is (the word BELIEVELAND should be in orange in that pic. note: it was taken indoors in good light). a good portion of my marek pics were also taken on this thing. the colors are always washed out, and the fucking thing takes a good 5 to 8 seconds to actually take the picture after you hit the button. that is pretty unacceptable. yeah i know, it’s a phone not a camera, but my aforementioned samsung (which was like 2 or 3 years old) had a better response time and better looking pictures. the reason i got rid of that one was the camera died. i’m not expecting dslr quality shots here, but something that looks better than a pic taken on some camera made in 1998 would be nice.
- the “locking” system blows – you can slide the thing open and it goes straight to the messaging menu, which is admittedly a nice feature, but a slide of 0.0000001cm will cause it to go to this menu. in your pocket this can happen pretty easily. i’ve taken it out of my pocket after a quick walk and found it trying to dial any number of crazy different phone numbers. it would be nice if the thing didn’t open the messaging menu until the phone was completely slid open. seems like a pretty easy solution to me.
- signal strength blows – i live in a brick condo building and i cannot get the phone to work inside anywhere… 2nd floor, near the windows, still doesn’t work. i almost always have to go outside to use the fucking thing. meanwhile my girlfriend who has some phone she got in like 1963 can walk around the entire place chatting it up. also, i get a lot of dropped calls even when i do have full (or near full) strength and i’m outside or in my car. this never happened on my samsung.
so all in all, i hate this thing. i’d like to get something else, but i feel like i’m wasting money because i just got this phone a few months ago. the one thing i will say it does well is battery life. i can go for 4 or 5 days without having to charge (now i’m by no means a power talker or anything, but it’s pretty good on battery life).
so if you were looking for reasons why this phone sucks, there you go.
got a comment from someone asking about the quality of the reminders on this thing, and it’s another problem that i forgot to mention. what i told them was that the reminders work, mostly. but after a while, if you have a repeating reminder, it will just stop working.
when we first got marek we removed basically everything from our bedroom so he wouldn’t chew up a cord or something. this included our alarm clock. as an alarm we started using my phone. i put in a repeating event to wake us up every morning. after a couple of weeks, it just didn’t go off one morning. i thought maybe i hit the button to turn it off while still sleeping (something i’ve been known to do). however, the next morning it was still not working. i’ve since had this happen on other monthly reminders as well. so far the only fix i’ve found is to delete all appointments and renter any recurring reminders you have.
so yeah, another reason to avoid this phone like the plague!
pos phone shuts off, real nice feature in a phone, sprint sucks and so does lg, will never ever buy anything from them again worst company on the planet would like to shove it down the dev teams throats until they choke to death then piss on thier bodies then chop them up and mail them to sprint corporate what a bunch of scumbags total disgrace never buy one if you like to answer your phone cant wait to ritualistically dismember this phone will make a night of it my god this pisses me off

another fucking reason is i just tried to get ring tones.. with the adapter it comes with so you can download music videos etc, well the videos and music work but.. the .. ringtones….. you cant fucking set it as your ring tone and you cant set the images as your backround unless it was taken with your piece of shit 2 bit quality camera on the phone…. this is the worte phone i’ve ever had my brother just downloaded 16 games on his cell phone in 3 minutes….. fuck life

i know how you feel ive had it for a few months and im really starting to want to break it. all the things u said are so true and its funny what we have to put up with. also when u wanna put a song as your ringtone which all other phones can do there is this whole long proccess that never works for me. this phone really turned me off lg for life.
I have an LG spyder and it sucks as well. Apparently all LG phones suck!

i hate this phone too! my retarted keyboard doesnt work && neither do the side buttons!. the messaging conversations should all be together, not sent/recieved. i absolutely hate it. now i have to change the volume by going into my settings , volume, ringer, and blah blah blah. i hate it so much
the rumor is a terrible phone. i had a panasonic in 1998 that was more reliable. my screen wont turn on when i tell it to (ie: sliding the phone open), wont charge when plugged in, randomly vibrates, lags while typing with the “sweet slide-out keypad”, and randomly shuts off.
btw: totally glad you posted this. sprint wont let me.

i also have a rumor and i agree it sucks ass! Today i was at the mall and i looked at my phone and it “magically” shut off, and now its not turning on. I press the end bottom and nothing. I dont have in my memory card, i also tried taking out my battery and trying to turn it on. It didn’t do shit! Do you have any suggestions?

OMGG i TOTALLY AGREE.. i have this stupid fucking phone and ive done everything possible to break it, but NOTHING will do it.. my mom wont let me get a new phone until next year which pisses me off so much, and stupid bell wont let me do anything about it but get me a replacement phone..

I guess you could just call the LG rumor a peice of JUNK.. The first time i saw it i thought it was pretty cool, but after a few months the pulg-in port on my rumor had broken, so we took it to get it fixed, but they gave me a brand new cell instead.. So after a week or so after i recived my SECOND rumor phone i could NOT use my keyboard bc everytime i slid my cell very colorfull lines would run across the screen, then it would go black or the lettering would go backwards, and thats not the only problem i had with it, it would also turn on and off by itself, so we took it back to get it fixed AGAIN.. I went out of town a few days ago just for a few hours or so and my signal wasn’t the best of all but i could still get it by moving around. I got back home that same day and realized i wasn’t getting as much messages as usuall, so i checked my cell n saw that i wasn’t getting signal in places where i usually did but i still got a few bars here n there. But 5 or 6 days later and i now have no signal what-so-ever… i dont even want to get it fixed now. I think it would just b better if i chucked it, n got a totally differant phone..
BTW i know people who have the same phone that have the same problems, so just for a heads-up for the people that are looking into getting a LG Rumor, don’t waste or time or your money!! :)
dude this phone sucks no wonder its my first phone the only good thing is i dropped it in the toilet and it still survided i thought it was dead b ut it was still sitting there just on the message screen just like it never even happend i waz like i dnt thik its supposed to be able to do that but yah other than that like when im trying to download somthing it will say its not supported and make me close out of it im like dang i need a new phone but i a m geting my dad touch screen phone its like the evo but smaller and plus u can actualy do something on it and its not a total pos like the rumor this phone was a big mistake they should of made a better one
My daughters have two of these phones. Luckily, we got the extended (two year) warranty, because between the two of them, we have now taken them in five times for repairs. Always, the same issue, the charger stops working.
It is touching button on it’s own now and not what I told it to It makes me want to fucking scream.
this is my first phone but i thinks its awesome ive had it going on 3 years and only the battery is shitty now thats it

you forgot to mention the thing has the same level of durability as a broken egg shell, this thing is a fucking peice of shit.
This phone sucks! I have sprint but its not sprints fault virgin mobile has the rumor touch and it has the same problems. I think its just the phone itself. But anyway I’ve had mine replaced 5 times and now I’m on my 6th rumer and the first 4 times my phone restarted itself and stayed like it there was nothing I could do. I could go to home screen. the 5th time I slammed it on the ground because it just restarted its self in a 3 page long message I was mad because I had to go back and fix my errors because the key board is to slow and mixes up the letters as your typing. my 6th rumor that im using now to type this sucks theres something wrong with it. one day I woke up and checked my messages and it had 4 blank messages that said it was sent out on january 8th 1980. No joke it was the weirdest thing Ive seen my phone do. but anyways I click on the message and it restarded itself and they were gone. maybe I have a bug or virus in my phone.
