now i’m all for equality amongst the sexes and all that shit. i think women are just as good at most thing – if not better than – men. i think they can be just as good CEOs or atheletes or whatever.

espn has a female announcer that actually knows her shit. i think her name is pam ward but i’m not 100% sure on that. anyway, i have no problem with someone who knows what they are talking about calling a game and keeping it interesting. (granted her voice is kinda manly and scratchy, but that’s not so bad)

what i do find rather amusing though is the “sideline analysts” that most sports broadcasts have now. they take a fairly attractive woman, stick her on the sideline, then have her “report” on different things during the game. the one thing i’ve come to notice that they usually report on is the “gossip” going on. for example, who’s hurt. who’s mom cooked them a big breakfast before the game. who has a girlfriend in the stands that happens to be a sister to someone on the opposing sideline.

it just seems to me that a lot of these sports organizations (espn, cbs, abc, etc) are taking the low road to allow women into sports broadcasting. now realize i’m not talking about female sports (wnba, women’s collegiate sports, billiards, etc) which have had a number of well informed, useful, female commentators, but rather the female sportscasters foray into male sports.

it just kind of bothers me really. i’d rather see more color commentators be female, or more play by play callers be female, than have some semi attractive woman giving gossip reports from the sidelines. but hey, that’s just me.
